O Lord my God, I will give thanks to You forever
Psalm 30:12
The soil of our heart is the place where we grow the kingdom of God. It bears fruit in our relationships and the systems we are involved with as we are the salt and light, but it is always maintained and grown in the heart.
There is a nutrient, a source of fuel for all the seeds planted there that is the miracle grow for life. It is gratitude, the art of giving thanks. When we are told to watch over our heart with all diligence, one of the best ways to do this is to give thanks and to develop this as a core part of our life. Let’s be clear, it is not a feeling, but a choice we make in regards to what we know about the nature and character of God.
Thanksgiving gives you a filter out of which to frame our life in God. It puts everything in perspective, and protects anything born of God. It is not blind as if we give thanks for things we secretly have a disdain and disgust for. It begins in a dust man and is as natural as a scent from a flower. God is the source and when we see Him and what He is doing, we can’t help but be thankful.
If you can’t give thanks, if you don’t find it as a key part of your garden, then you can be assured there are weeds or rocks in the garden that must be dealt with or they will overgrow or destroy the life we have in God.
Thanksgiving is a gift, we ‘give’ thanks to the Lord because it creates sacred ground, the ground that the seeds of God grow in.
